element definition

Post by dyeyanie »

Hi Louise,

I would like to include the .eld input file into my .inp file. However, I'm not really sure on how the distribution of element definition was made. Like in .ori file, I knew that the distirbution is as follows;

*Distribution Table, Name=TexGenOrientationVectors
COORD3D,COORD3D
*Distribution, Location=Element, Table=TexGenOrientationVectors, Name=TexGenOrientationVectors, Input=AI.ori

what I mean was, what is the label of each column.
Hope you could help on this. Thanks

Hi Yanie,

Here is the section lifted from the .inp file produced by the dry fibre export. It gives the definitions for the columns in the .eld file:

** Note: Additional element data are stored as a depvars:
** 1 - Yarn Index (-1 for matrix, first yarn starting at 0)
** 2/3 - Location (x and y cross-section coordinates of element relative to yarn centerline)
** 4 - Volume fraction
** 5 - Distance of element from the surface of the yarn (for yarn elements only, distance is negative)
*Initial Conditions, Type=Solution, Input=test.eld

Hi Louise,

I vary my geometry according to the fibre volume fraction so I've called the eld input in my input file as you attached before. Below is the details of my input;

*****************

*** MATERIALS ***

*****************

*Material, Name=Mat0

*Elastic

2.5e+009, 0.35

*Expansion

6.5e-006

*Material, Name=Mat1

*Elastic

7.25e+09, 0.22

*Expansion

4.9e-06

*Solid Section, ElSet=Matrix, Material=Mat0

1.0,

*Solid Section, ElSet=Yarn0, Material=Mat1

1.0,
*Solid Section, ElSet=Yarn38, Material=Mat1

1.0,

*Solid Section, ElSet=Yarn39, Material=Mat1

1.0,

** Note: Additional element data are stored as a depvars:

** 1 - Yarn Index (-1 for matrix, first yarn starting at 0)

** 2/3 - Location (x and y cross-section coordinates of element relative to yarn centerline)

** 4 - Volume fraction

** 5 - Distance of element from the surface of the yarn (for yarn elements only, distance is negative)

*Initial Conditions, Type=Solution, Input=AI.eld

Once I ran them in ABAQUS, I found that the results are the same even I made changes to the volume fraction (10%, 20% etc..). Did I call them wrongly?

Hi Yanie,

This should have read in the variables for you. Abaqus will not, however, automatically use theses. You will need to write a user subroutine to define how you wish Abaqus to use the data. The Abaqus user manual should give you guidance on doing this.

HI Louise,

Is there any alternatives for me instead of providing the subroutines to call the eld files? My intention is to vary the volume fraction of the geometry and I varies them according to Yarn linear density values.

Hi Yanie,

If you want Abaqus to make any use of your volume fraction data then you will have to use a subroutine to get it to do so.
