Hi Louise,

thanks for your help. Another thing that I need to double check with you regarding this matter is what's the default volume fraction here? Since you mentioned that the abaqus won't read the eld filed unless with subroutines.

Hi Yanie,

I'm afraid I've no idea what Abaqus would use as a default value for volume fraction if you haven't provided it with any data - you'll have to look in the Abaqus user manual.

Hi Yanie,

I think Abaqus will assume the yarn sections contains only fibres (Vf=1).You can try just change the material properties of the fibres in the input file to that of the tows.

Hi Shuo,

Yes, I have a same sense too regarding Abaqus assumption where Abaqus defines them as solid yarn. I did changed the material properties of the yarn in varying the volume fraction. However, this data must be provided together with subroutines to be readable in ABAQUS. Or did I misinterpret your statement before?

Hi Yanie,

I just started to use Abaqus and dont know how to use subroutine at the moment. I just simply use rule of mixture to get the properties of the tows outside abaqus and use those as inputs for abaqus. It's not really clever but it does the job. I assume by using subroutines it would do the similar job, maybe using other methods rather than ROM.
