Hi..I'm having some difficulty generating the mesh in Abaqus. I have managed to create the weave pattern I want, and then managed to export it to IGES file format. However when I try to import this file into Abaqus, an error is displayed saying that the geometry needs repaired...even after I do this, it still doesnt want to mesh my textile. Can anyone offer any advice?

Meshing in Abaqus

Hi Marc,
Sorry I've been busy the last two days I didn't see your message until now.
There are a lot of issues relating to transferring CAD geometry between packages using file formats such as IGES and STEP. This is a general problem, not something specific to TexGen.
Although in theory using a standard file format to transfer geometry between packages seems like the ideal solution in actual fact its more trouble than it's worth.
Recently I've been working on implementing a mesh generator in TexGen, its already in the latest release (but that only exports to VTK file format). However today I have been working on writing the data out to ABAQUS .inp file format as well. This feature will be in the next release of TexGen, I can't tell you when that will be yet.
If you are courageous you can checkout the latest source code from subversion and compile it yourself, then you will have access to this feature immediately.
Actually if you want to get started straight away, perhaps you could save the fabrics you are looking at to .tg3 and post it on the forum and I can create an ABAQUS input file for you to play around with.
