Refinig the mesh by setting the weave resolution

Post by lianges777 »

Hi,
I tried refining the mesh for a 2D plain weave by increasing the resolution. But the final mesh doesn't have more elements. I mean the resolution is supposed to impose the number of nodes equispaced in a yarn'section. I have tried setting the resolution to 5, 20,40 and 80. And each time I counted the number of nodes around a yarn elliptical section. Well I did not find the resolution I had defined.
Can someone explain to me what I did wrong?
Thank you very much

I may misunderstand you, but I think that you might be confusing nodes which form the geometry with those which form the mesh. Increasing the number of nodes on a yarn section will cause it to have a smoother outline, but I *think* this is independent of the seed length used to generate a mesh. This may depend on exactly what kind of mesh you are generating (yarns only, yarns+matrix etc.)

Cheers,
Jon.

In order to see the effects of changing the resolution you can turn x-ray "on" in the renderer. Changing the resolution will change the grid size shown (more nodes on the geometrical surface).

If you are exporting just yarn meshes, I think that the resolution basically controls the mesh that comes out (not sure on this one, I don't really do that with my research).

I think Jon is right that the resolution will mostly only change the smoothness of the yarn surfaces, but I am positive that the resolution will also effect the final mesh that is produced. The same seed size and two different resolutions will produce different numbers of elements.

Thanks,

Jarvis
