Study of a unit cell using theTexGen and the Abaqus

Post by LigiaF »

Dear Louise

First of all, I’m going to explain a little bit about my work so you could help me to understand the capabilities of the TexGen to perform such work.

I’m studying the woven textiles that compose the stent grafts (this is a medical device). To do this I drew a unit cell, of the textile, in the TexGen and after I imported the model into the Abaqus using the ‘dry fibre file’ option. I think that this is the best option because I don´t want to import a matrix – only the yarns.

My intention is to put an encastre in two yarn sections and subjecting the two sections ahead with a distributed tensile force. The other sections remain free.

The problem is: importing the dry file from TexGen to Abaqus, don´t give the possibility of having a refine mesh and the possibility of doing a static analysis (only a dynamic explicit or dynamic implicit analysis). Furthermore, the contact conditions that we can establish do not respect what happens in reality - only a portion of the yarns, which are subjected to the tensile force, slide over the other yarns and the other portion remains ‘stuck’, and do not slip (I’m using the contact option master/slave contact).

If I import a voxel file, I can have a more refined mesh, but I have the yarns associated and constrained with a matrix.

You have some advices or some tips to give me in this situation, to perform this type of study?

Thanks a lot for the help,

Dear Ligia,

Apologies for the delay in replying - I have just returned from holiday.

Firstly the dry fibre export: You can get a preview of the mesh which will be exported by using the Render Textile Volume option. If the mesh is not refined enough then this can be adjusted by using the Yarn SetResolution functions described here: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/api/class ... _yarn.html
Setting the number of slave nodes will alter the resolution along the length of the yarn and setting the number of section points will alter the number of points around the circumference of the yarn, and hence the number of elements across the cross-section. These can also be directly edited in the saved tg3 file.

If you export the voxel file you can just select Output Yarns and deselect Output Matrix and then you will just export the voxels within the yarns.

For different analyses and contacts you will need to edit the .inp file yourself to suit your requirements.

Hope that helps,

Louise
