Exporting from Texgen - issue
I am not able to export any files from Texgen, stp, iges, or abaqus. I am using a 64 bit windows operating system, with Intel graphics graphics driver. I googled around and found that I have to place the python25.dll in the system32 directory. However, i could not find that file in my system, even after installing python. Is there anything I can do now to export any files from Texgen?
Once I click on export, give the file name and save, it goes to not responding mode and I have to terminate the program everytime.
Thanks!!

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Navanee,
I'm not sure why this should be. Which version of TexGen did you use? Was it the bundled version which should have Python included?
I released a new version of TexGen yesterday. There is now a 64-bit version available so maybe it would be worth trying that.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Louise,
I would like to pursue this issue regarding STP and IGES file. I'm not able to import my geometry with this application due to the size of my geometry (i have 24 fibres in total -> 12 in weft and 12 in warp). Is there any limitation in this selection? Because I have no problem in importing geometry with 4 fibres (a plain weave).

Hi Yanie,
I'm not sure about this. If you can send me the file you're trying to export then I can take a look and see if I can see what the problem is.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Louise,
Sorry for a late reply. I've overlooked to this post actually. I would like to modify the friction or contact of this geometry by using this options. I'm glad if you any idea on how should I imposed the friction condition to my geometry. However, I tried to upload my tg3 files here but I got this warning " The tg3 is not allowed". So which files that you are mentioned to?
Many thanks.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Yanie,
I don't think that the forum will allow uploads of .tg3 files. You could email it to me and then I'll try exporting it. Did you want it in STEP or IGES format?
Are you modelling a composite or a dry textile? If you have created your textile using the wizard and are exporting as a dry textile then there are contacts in the .inp file. You could then change change these and add any friction settings you want in the .inp file.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Louise,
I would like to create both of them, a composite and a dry textile. I think I'm clear with a dry textile and I would create my fibers via that options and change their contacts for friction settings. However, I'm quite clear to modify them for composites.
I would like to import them in IGEs format. To which email should I email them?
thanks

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Yanie,
I have had a look at your textile and it looks like there might be some memory issues with the export which are presumably worse with your larger textile. I managed to export 5 of the yarns to STEP format using the faceted option ( this seems to be more robust than the smooth for some reason ) which I could then read into a STEP viewer. I also managed to export the whole textile with the domain reduced to one repeat but the STEP viewer crashed trying to read it in so I'm not sure if it was a valid file or not.
I will investigate this further when I have the opportunity.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hello,
It seems I am having similar issues trying to export to both iges and step formats... "An unhandled exception occurred" (sometimes while TexGen is 'confining yarns', and sometimes when subtracting yarns from domain).
Though I am exporting for later use in Abaqus, I am trying to do some work with Abaqus/CFD, looking at flow through the domain around the yarns. Hence I am not able to export to the Abaqus voxel file (as it enforces structural and not fluid elements), and I require the 'subtract yarns' option when exporting to iges or step formats.
In my work I am trying to look at various fabric shear angles (altered through a python script that is run through TexGen), and have actually found that some configurations will export just fine in a 'smooth' geometry, others will only export in a 'faceted' geometry, but unfortunately most seem to encounter the above error (where 'abort' or 'retry' shuts down TexGen).
Any suggestions or recommendations on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated,
Rob.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Rob,
Could you send me an an example tg3 file that you are having problems with? Also a description of exactly what you did, which export options you chose, and also which version of TexGen you are running.
As more people seem to be using this option I try and address it soon. If the problem is within TexGen I will hopefully be able to solve it. If, however, it turns out to be an issue with the OpenCascade export libraries then I will report the issue but won't be able to guarantee when it would be sorted out.
If you're doing CFD then there's a tutorial on the TexGen website here http://texgen.sourceforge.net/workshop/ ... alysis.pdf which shows how to use TexGen with Ansys CFX. If you have access to CFX software then this might be an alternative approach. Colleagues in our department also use the Abaqus voxel export as an input to Ansys for CFD analysis.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Louise,
Thank you, yes I have seen the tutorial up there, though I did have some issues trying to replicate that work as I have not been able to locate a "VTK importer" executable.
As you have mentioned there are other CFD alternatives that will most likely work, but I have been particularly curious to try using Abaqus' new CFD capabilities (and perhaps comparing them against CFX).
I am running v3.5.2 (compiled on Jul 30 2012), and trying to use the "Export > STEP file..." function with a "Smooth" yarn surface (or even faceted if it will work when smooth doesn't) with both "Export Domain" and "Subtract Yarns" on.
Unfortunately as a previous poster has mentioned, I cannot upload tg3 attachments in a post here (or send them through private messages), and I have not been able to locate your email address from your profile. If you could private message me an address? I'll send through the files.
Cheers,
Rob.

Hi Rob,
Are you running the 32 or 64-bit version?
You should just be able to hit the Email louisepb link on my profile to send an email but I'll send my address anyway.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
I have sent an email just now with most of the information and sample files.
It must be the 32 bit version I am using, as that is the only one I am able to find linked here (TexGen32bitBundle http://sourceforge.net/projects/texgen/), is there a 64-bit version available for download? If so I can download this and see if it helps.
Unfortunately there is no 'Email louisepb' link on your profile, only a 'PM: Send private message' link, you may not be sharing your email with other users in your preferences?
Cheers,
Rob.

Re: Exporting from Texgen - issue
Hi Rob,
I have received your email and have taken a quick look at the files. In the CF-PW-20 file there seems to be an issue with yarn 2 which doesn't export properly. At least that narrows it down so it makes debugging rather easier. I'll take a look at it soon.
If you select the Browse All Files option underneath the large download button you will see the different versions available and be able to download the 64-bit version. The export to step and iges options seem to be more robust in that version (although still not completely so).
