Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hello,
I am trying to follow this tutorial: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/workshop/ ... alysis.pdf. I can't find the file: CFXImportVTK.exe that's required to input the mesh file generated by Texgen (.vtu) to CFX. It is possible this file be shared? If not, how to create our own API, is it a nontrivial task?
Thanks,
Shuping

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hi Shuping,
There are two routes that you could take. Which one you use may depend on the complexity of your weave. If you have a fairly simple 2D weave then the method described for importing the mesh will be fine and the tetrahedral mesh vtk file produced by TexGen can be imported straight into CFX using the executable that you asked about. I will send this to you in a separate email ( can't attach exe files on the forum).
If you have a more complex weave including more vertically oriented fibres then the tetrahedral volume mesh option in TexGen does not work very well. In this case it is better to use the Abaqus voxel mesh export option, checking the tick box for no boundary conditions. You can then use third party software such as Hypermesh to convert the .inp file into CFX format.
Best regards,
Louise

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hello Louise,
I am having trouble converting .inp file to CFX case file. I never used Hypermesh before, it's bit difficult for to me. Could you please forward me the vtk executable file to my email account: swang248@gmail.com.
Thanks for your help,
Shuping

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hi Shuping,
I sent the file out to your umn.edu email address when I replied to your previous post - maybe you didn't receive it? I've just forwarded the email to your gmail address. Let me know if it doesn't arrive and I'll try and sort out another way of getting it to you.
I'm afraid I'm not a Hypermesh user either so I can't help you with that.

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hello,
I think .exe file won't get through. Could you please rename it to .doc or other type or pack it in a zip file and try send it again? Thank you very much for you help. I've been struggling with hypermesh for a couple of days, looks like I have a lot to learn.
Thanks,
Shuping

Hi Shuping,
I sent it as a zip file for that reason. I've sent it to both email addresses renamed as a .doc file.

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
dear louisepb and dear shuping... can anyone of you send this exe file as I am also doing analysis on CFX for three layers of twill weave modeled in TEXGEN...and cannot locate this exe file while importing mesh....
Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hi,
The file is available on the TexGen download page here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/texgen/files/texgen/
Best regards,
Louise

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
thanks Louise.
I have almost same case as in the tutorial and i have run file successfully...
sorry to bother you but can you kindly let me know about domain interfaces a si am confused a bit and cannot run (my case is vacuum infusion )..i get error because i am not able to understand domain interfaces topology.....
Kindly guide me in this regard
Best Regards

Hi,
Please could you be more specific? I'm not really sure what you need to know.
Best regards,
Louise

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Dear Louise
I am trying to follow that tutorial
I have three queries, if you can kindly help me on thoese:
1. Do the CFX simulate flow in the empty spaces and consider yarns as walls or it can pass flow through yarn as well?
2. I am unable to follow the interfaces defined in the tutorial.like opposite interfaces, inlet outlet etc, as far my understanding for Vacuum Infusion , I have given interfaces top bottom, sides and fornt and back are not interfaces they are rather inlet and outlet.
I have applied above interfaces/BCs but results are horribly wrong thats why I think theseare not correct type of interfaces...Kindly guideme regarding Interfaces or BCs in that tutorial or just advise me the same for Vacuum Infusion...
I will send you my problem (email), if you advise me to do so....
Best Regards and bundle of thanks

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hi,
I have asked my colleague who put together the CFX tutorial (I am not a user of this myself I'm afraid). He pointed out that the GUI of the new version of CFX looks quite different (so we need to update the tutorial!).
He replied as follows:
1. In the tutorial, there is an permeable interface between yarn (porous domain) and inter-yarn space (fluid region).
2. Permeability tensor is calculated independent of choice of liquid composites moulding processes. Periodic interface is defined to represent an infinite in-plane size. Try translational periodic BC where it is appropriate.
In predicting permeability of real textile, simulation of lay-ups (including nesting) can improve the accuracy.
I hope that helps,
Louise

Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Thanks dear i am extremely thanks ful i have run the file and its successful but one last ting that I want to know is that if i have six faces imported (01 inlet face,01 outlet face, 4 walls), then which should be defined as interfaces as I already have named them as six regions/faces...
Thanks a lot once again
Thanks a lot once again
Re: Volume mesh import API for CFX
Hi,
You should be defining two sets of interfaces, on opposite faces of the domain, with translational periodicity. This will give you in-plane flow.
Best regards,
Louise
