data analysis of dry fibre simulation

Post by dyeyanie »

Hi Louise,

I have tried another options of meshing in TexGen and I ran them. I found several warnings in my data file.
1. ***WARNING: ELEMENT TYPE C3D6 USES THE REDUCED INTEGRATION IN Abaqus/Explicit AND WILL BE REFERRED TO AS C3D6R FROM HERE ON
2. ***NOTE: DUE TO EXCESSIVE REPORTING, THE ECHO OF THE *SURFACE OPTION IS BEING
SUPPRESSED.
3.***WARNING: THE PARAMETER HOURGLASS ON THE *SECTION CONTROLS OPTION IS
RELEVANT FOR SOLID, MEMBRANE, AND SHELL ELEMENTS WITH REDUCED
INTEGRATION WHEREVER APPLICABLE. THIS WARNING CAN BE IGNORED IF
THE FEATURE IS APPLIED TO THESE ELEMENT TYPES ONLY.
4.***WARNING: NODE SET DOMAIN HAS NO MEMBERS AND WILL BE IGNORED. NODES DEFINED
IN THIS SET MAY HAVE BEEN DELETED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT CONNECTED
TO ANY ELEMENTS.
5.***WARNING: THE OPTION *BOUNDARY,TYPE=DISPLACEMENT HAS BEEN USED; CHECK STATUS
FILE BETWEEN STEPS FOR WARNINGS ON ANY JUMPS PRESCRIBED ACROSS THE
STEPS IN DISPLACEMENT VALUES OF TRANSLATIONAL DOF. FOR ROTATIONAL
DOF MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO SUCH JUMPS. ALL JUMPS IN
DISPLACEMENTS ACROSS STEPS ARE IGNORED

I don't really understand how to overcome this warnings. I really appreciate your help then.

Hi Louise,

I forgot to attach here the geometry of mine after undergone the analysis. However, the simulation has been terminated due to the errors mentioned previously.

Hi Yanie,

You haven't said which meshing option you have used. If you could give me more detail I might be able to help.

Hi Louise,

I'm using Dry Fibre mesh for this matter. I also imposed a tension load at the X direction which is X=1.1 , Y=0 and Z=0. I changed the friction coefficient to 0 as well.

Hi Yanie,

I think you need to find someone who is knowledgeable about Abaqus to help you with this. Looking at the image it looks like you haven't specified that the ends of your yarns should match - are your boundary conditions correct? Probably the Abaqus user manual can help you with interpreting the warnings.

HI Louise,

Just wanna clarify with you on the computational of the outputs from dry fibre analysis. Is it like the normal calculation of ABAQUS implemented in determining the elastic properties?

Hi Yanie,

I'm not sure what you mean by "normal calculation of ABAQUS implemented in determining the elastic properties"?

Hi Louise,

Sorry if I make you confused. What I'm trying to say is after I obtain the odb file for dry fibre simulation, how could I calculate the E, v etc from there? Is it by plotting the stress-strain curve straightaway?

Hi Yanie,

Yes, you will need to use your stress-strain curve to calculate the properties. You will need to be careful as they may be non-linear.

Hi Louise,

Ok, I'm aware of stress-strain curve. But since we are dealing with PBC, how could we determine the average E or the total RVE? If I'm not mistaken, if we have PBC, we could retrieve all the information via Reaction force right? But I'm still not really sure how far this thing could be implemented.

Hope you may guide me then.

Hi Yanie,

I've just talked with my colleague who knows more about this than I do. In the dry fibre simulation the reaction force is given on the dummy node used in the PBC equations. You will have a displacement history so you should be able to examine the unit cell response by looking at the force/displacement relationship on the dummy nodes.

I'm afraid that I haven't used this myself so can't be much more help. Hopefully you will have someone at your university who knows more about analysing the results of simulations than I do!

Hi Louise,

I'm trying to plot the stress-strain graph for my output. Let say, I would like to calculate E11 so I picked the integration point for the output variables position, S11 and LE11. However, I'm having a problem in picking the element/nodes. To which should I pick?I have 24 yarns in my geometry. I tried to pick ALL but the system went error then.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Yanie,

I'm afraid, as I've said before, that I'm not an Abaqus expert and can't really guide you on this. You'll need to find someone who is skilled at interpreting Abaqus output to help.

Sorry not to be more help,

Louise
