TexGen under Linux with GUI

Post by sprobst76 »

Hi all,

did anybody tried to compile and install TexGen with Gui with a Linux System. Is this possible somehow with the latest (SVN) version?

Best regards
Stefan

P.S.: The final error I ended up was
Linking CXX executable ../TexGenGUI

Hi Stefan,

I have been working on getting the TexGen GUI to build in my Linux system. I am a complete Linux novice and so have been finding this quite hard going!

It looks to me like your errors may be caused by your using Python 2.6. I think that there have been issues with using TexGen with this version of Python so it might be worth trying it with Python 2.5.

Have you managed to build VTK? My problem has been that the version downloaded by the package manager in Ubuntu is only VTK 5.2 and TexGen needs 5.4 to run. I think that I am going to have to download the source and build from there. Is this what you did?

It would be great if, between us, we could get the Linux build working as I would like to release a new version of TexGen but am reluctant to release another version for just Windows.

Best regards,
Louise

VTK Compilation

Post by sprobst76 »

Dear Louise,

for OpenSuse 11.2 there had been no VTK package (5.6) available. But I compiled it by myself.

First I had some problems with the dependencies, but after the installation of various development packages. The compilation worked. The CMake-Gui helped a lot to find all necessary packages.

I will try to install a older version of python and will try to compile TexGen. Perhaps we can find a way to compile it and write down a new installation manual.

For future development it would be useful to change the code, that it works also with python 2.6 or even more Python 3.1.

Best regards

Same error with python 2.5

Post by sprobst76 »

Dear Louise,

I tried to compile TexGen with python 2.5 and it failed again with the same error:

Code: Select all

Linking CXX executable ../TexGenGUI
/opt/python2.5/lib/python2.5/config/libpython2.5.a(posixmodule.o): In function `posix_tmpnam':
/home/spro/Downloads/Python-2.5.5/./Modules/posixmodule.c:6858: warning: the use of `tmpnam_r' is dangerous, better use `mkstemp'
/opt/python2.5/lib/python2.5/config/libpython2.5.a(posixmodule.o): In function `posix_tempnam':
/home/spro/Downloads/Python-2.5.5/./Modules/posixmodule.c:6813: warning: the use of `tempnam' is dangerous, better use `mkstemp'
/opt/python2.5/lib/python2.5/config/libpython2.5.a(posixmodule.o): In function `posix_forkpty':
posixmodule.c:(.text+0x26b8): undefined reference to `forkpty'
/opt/python2.5/lib/python2.5/config/libpython2.5.a(posixmodule.o): In function `posix_openpty':
posixmodule.c:(.text+0x44b6): undefined reference to `openpty'
I think that somehow some additional information has to be applied in the CMake configuration, but I am not sure, which kind of information.

You did not have this kind of problem, with your installtion.

Which Ubuntu are you working on? I have OpenSuse 11.2!

Best regards

Hi Stefan,

I had a quick search and found this http://www.paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=9897 which seems to say that there may be linker flags which need setting in the CMake file. Let me know if that helps.

I have Karmic Ubuntu. We have someone here at Nottingham who would like to get TexGen working on OpenSuse so it would be great to know if you manage to get it working.

I have made progress with my build and have got everything building except the GUI module which says that the linker can't see lvtkGraphics so I'm trying to hunt that one down at the moment.

Best regards,

I now have a working version of the Linux version of TexGen with the GUI. The latest Release 3.3.2 and the head version in the repository contain the changes that I made to the CMakeLists.txt files to get it to build with the necessary library files, and the bug fixes to stop the WeaveWizard and YarnSection dialogs from crashing. If anyone finds any more bugs that manifest themselves in the Linux version please can you report them!

I will post the steps that I took to get the Linux build working on the website shortly.

Very pleased to have finally got this working :D
