Export of Voxel in Texgen 3.6.1

Post by Simon Lux »

Hello together,

right now I'm writing my bachelor thesis and I'm comparing different RTM simulation software. I also want to compare different types of Textile. I started to create different Textiles with the 2dWeave Wizzard and I wanted to calculate the permeability with FlowTex. So fare so good. As the Administrator of the Institution I am working at, has not enough skills with Python, I now hope that someone in this forum can help me.

To calculate the permeability, i need to have a .vox file. My problem is, that it is not possible to Export the created Textiles into a .vox File.
I follow the Path: File->Export->In-House->Voxel File. After setting the Grid Resolution, I may save the Voxel file now.

This is the Error i receive in the Python Output Console:

<1> from TexGen.FlowTex import *
<2> ExportFlowTex(r"C:\Users\lux.IFB\Desktop\hdfhdgs.vox", "2DWeave(W:2,H:2)", (54, 54, 5))
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "gui", line 1, in <module>
ImportError: No module named FlowTex

No File was saved at all.
I've installed an older version of TexGen on my private PC an with this version(3.0.2 from 2006, with non of the functions i need) I had no Problems Exporting the Textiles.

Now the important Question:
Is there any possibility to get the Export going, or must I scale down my expectations and create simple Textiles in TexGen version 3.0.2?

Best regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

Welcome to the forum!

There seems to be an issue with TexGen finding the Python package containing the FlowTex.py script. (I haven't quite worked out what the issue is yet). You should be able to get it to work by typing "from TexGen.FlowTex import * " into the Python Console window as soon as you have run up TexGen.

This is quite an old script and isn't used by anyone in our group for permeability predictions any more. I guess that it could be possible that the file format required by FlowTex may have changed. It also uses one corner of the voxel rather than the centre point to determine whether the voxel is in the yarn or matrix.

The current method recommended is using Ansys, either with a tetrahedral mesh as described here: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/workshop/ ... alysis.pdf or using the Abaqus voxel mesh export. In the case of the voxel mesh the method we use is to import the voxel mesh in the .inp file into Hypermesh and then use that to convert to Ansys format.

I hope that helps.
Best regards,
Louise
