Hi all,
thank you in advance to all developers that worked on this project!
I've some problems with the mesh of a model created with TexGen. The ABAQUS Voxel File creation tool works well, but when I try to export a Volume Mesh the program hangs with an "unhandled exception" error. I've tried to change mesh seed with no results.
Since I'm also trying to build a Linux version, I've written a script to create the Volume Mesh under OpenSUSE, with the same results... The python script begins to eat all available memory (32GB in less than two minutes!) until I have to kill it, so I think there is some sort of memory leak somewhere in the meshing tool.
Is there someone that can give me the right tip to solve the problem?
Many thanks,
Carlo A.

Re: Volume mesh creation problem
Hi Carlo,
I have taken a look at your model. There are a couple of issues with using the Volume Mesh with this. Firstly the algorithm isn't suitable for textiles with vertical or near vertical yarns. There have been some previous discussions on the forum about this. Because of the way the algorithm works the tetrahedra generated in the vertical yarns are very long and misshapen. I'm afraid that there is no solution to this without a major rewrite of the code. I think that another issue will be the spiraling through thickness yarns. The algorithm looks for the edges of the yarns to give the boundaries for triangulation. I think that these yarns will cause problems with this.
What are you using the model for? We mostly use voxel meshing here at Nottingham and have found it to give good results providing that the mesh density is selected carefully. You should be careful if you try to generate periodic boundary conditions as your model is not periodic and has no repeats specified.
An alternative would be to export as a STEP or IGES file and use another program to mesh.
Hope that helps,
Louise
