Hello everybody!
I'm curious about the use of TexGen together with calculix (An open FEM code reading Abaqus-like files *.inp) ...
I tried to run directly the .inp generated by TexGen into calculix shell, however seems that there is a sort of incompatibility in reading the orientations (to start)
"*ERROR reading *ORIENTATION. Card image:
TEXGENORIENTATIONVECTORS"
Does anyone have tried to run TexGen with Calculix before?
Thanks!.

Re: Calculix and TexGen
Hi,
I haven't used Calculix myself, and can't find anything in the documentation, but I wonder if it allows sub-files? For starters you could try copying the information in the .ori file into the main .inp file (I guess you will also need to take out the references to the .ori file and check the other commands in that section) and see if that solves the problem.
Let me know how you get on. If that doesn't work I'll take a closer look at it.
Best regards,
Louise

In fact, it turns that it is a bit different the format (just small changes) between Calculix and Abaqus... and as far as I found, these differences rely principally on the input format of the commands
Code: Select all
*ORIENTATION Code: Select all
*EQUATIONHowever, seems that the transition between pseudo-languages "should" be sort of transparent since recently some authors have been able to use TexGen together with Calculix, see e.g.
http://www.iccm-central.org/Proceedings ... ithman.pdf
I was wondering if it would be very difficult in the near future to give directly the option to export as Calculix *.inp file in TexGen, since is an open source (and free) software that would work perfectly together with TexGen...would be great if you could take a look.
Thank you in advance!
Re: Calculix and TexGen
Hi,
The work for the paper that you refer to was carried out here at Nottingham. In fact, before I answered your query, I consulted a colleague and was able to have a look at some of Sheila Smitheman's Calculix files. She didn't use the orientations directly but created a material for each element so I was unable to see how the orientations commands compared.
Hopefully you should be able to create the correct Calculix orientation input from the TexGen files. There are no plans at the moment to incorporate Calculix export into TexGen but it's something that I'll think about for the next major release.
Best regards,
Louise

Thank you Louis. So far I use the orientations directly in Matlab. However, I'm curious how it would be in Calculix... Looking forward to it.
Cheers.
