Hi guys,
Recently I'm trying to use TexGen to build a structure for a 2*2 twill fabric. It's a tightly packed fabric. The yarn space and yarn width should be the same as 2.3179 mm. However, when I use TexGen to generate this structure, the width of the yarn will be reduced automatically (sorry I don't know how to insert the image here). It seems that for my case, TexGen only accept a yarn width that is smaller than the yarn space...
However, when I search online, I find the paper "Automated geometric modelling of textile structures". It shows that TexGen does have the ability to build the structure for the tightly packed fabric (you can see in the Figure 8 in this paper).
So, is there any special setting needed if I want to use TexGen to build structure for the tightly packed fabric?
Thanks!

Re: Question for simulate the tightly packed fabric
Hi,
It sounds as though you are using the 2D weave wizard to generate your textile? If you select the 'refine' option with this it will automatically reduce the width of the yarns to eliminate intersections in the textile.
It is likely that, for a tightly packed fabric, the cross-section of the yarns will change along their length. Details of how to change the cross-section of yarns is here: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/index.php ... s-Sections
Alternately it may be more straightforward to write a script to generate your textile as this gives you complete control over the structure that you create. The scripting guide is here: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/index.php/Scripting_Guide
If you're new to the forum and using TexGen it would be good to hear where you're from and what you're using TexGen for
Hope that helps,
Louise

Re: Question for simulate the tightly packed fabric
Hi Louise,
Thanks a lot for your reply. I will dig more of this software to see what I can get.
I'm from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, USA. Currently I'm trying to use TexGen to build a structure for a 2X2 twill uncured prepreg. Then I will do the simulation to predict the constitutive law of the material with Abaqus simulation.
Thanks again for you and your colleagues to provide such a good software for all of us!
Best,
Weizhao
