modelling +/- 45 ply

Post by loyal979 »

Hi,

Im trying to model a non-crimp textile and its rotated 45 deg. I tried it with +45 deg and -45 deg and every time the software crashes on me. here is the following data for warp and weft yarns for 2D weave:
number of warp yarns: 25
number of weftyarns: 25
spacing: 0.002 m
width: 0.00172 m
thickness: 0.00019 m

The rotation feature works fine with +/- 90 deg but not +/- 45 deg. Im just wondering if there is a solution for that issue. please let me know.

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

I assume that you're creating a textile with the 2D wizard and leaving all the yarns straight? This works on my computer with the dimensions specified. If I leave the refine option checked it takes a long time (didn't time it but I think it was about 20 mins) to create the textile so it could appear that the software has crashed. Unchecking the refine option it takes about a minute to create the textile and then rotates it successfully by either + or - 45 degrees (I assume you're rotating about the z axis?).

Please let me know if that's not what you're doing and there is some other problem.

Hope that helps,
Louise

Hi Louise,

That's exactly what I'm doing. I only have create default domain option checked. but for some reasons, it does not work with me. I don't know if my computer is not capable to handle that or something wrong with the software.

Thank you,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Does it work for a smaller number of yarns in your model? If so then it could possibly be a memory issue. I am running TexGen on an i7 laptop with 16GB RAM.

Best regards,
Louise

Hi Louise,

It does work with very small number of tows. My laptop is i7 with 8GB. I will try another computer and see if I have the same issue.

Thank you

Matt
