Dear Louise,
I'm trying to export a satin weave using faceted and smooth option. The faceted seem to work but unfortunately, the smooth option crashes TexGen every time I try to export the weave. I have tried both the IGES/STEP formats. Is there any script available to obtain a smooth yarn geometry from TexGen? Hoping to get your insight on this.
Regards
Chaman
The script is attached.

Re: Weave Export
Dear Chaman,
TexGen uses the OpenCASCADE library for the iges and stp exports. I'm afraid that this isn't always robust and does tend to crash. As you've found out the faceted export is more reliable than the smooth. On my computer the smooth export works if the Join Yarn Sections is not checked.
Is there a reason that you want to export just the geometry rather than using one of the meshing options? You will lose volume fraction and orientation information by using this method of export.
Best regards,
Louise

Re: Weave Export
Dear Louise,
Thank you for the help. The method you suggested works pretty well. I need to export dry fabric geometry because I'm trying to script a variable fibre volume fraction distribution along the length of the yarn for my work. I don't need local orientations rather global.

Re: Weave Export
Hi Chaman,
If you use the Dry Fibre export option you will get an input file with the local yarn volume fraction for each element.
Best regards,
Louise
