The yarn section rotates within the path
Dear Louise:
Beauty, I am glad to leave you a message. I am a student named ZhuDongHui from China. TexGen is really fantastic software. I usually work with it for my research. I have known that how to use scripts modeling woven composite and Reading the document "Extraction of Material Properties using Voxel Meshing and Abaqus ", I achieve the material properties of the composite successfully. It's really appreciate for your effort.
Recently, I am in trouble when modeling the 3D 4-step braided composite. The problem picture is in attachment. Yarn section seem not good. The section rotate randomly and has some torsion. How can i solve this problem. Can I hear from you?
Best regards
Frank Zhu

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Dear Frank,
I think this is probably a problem with the up-vectors as described in the thread here: http://texgen.sourceforge.net/phpBB3/vi ... ctor#p2976
Hope that helps,
Louise

Dear Louise:
It's so sweet for your reply. However, There are also 3 questions that asking for your advice.
1. Unfortunately for me , I can't link to the " http://etheses.nottingham.ac.uk/303/1/thesis-final.pdf ". Is the location updated ?
2. Also, I don't know how to use use the function " CNode SetUp(XYZ Up) " after i have tried hard to run the scripts. Can you give me more information about this function?
I can do is that change the position of X and Z coordinate. The result is in attachment.
3. For the further study, when I render the fiber orientation, i can't get the result like "weave module". The camparision is in attachment.
It's so embarrassed for me that i can't understand these clearly. Can you give me more information?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regard
Frank.

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Hi Frank,
The correct link for Martin Sherburn's thesis is http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/id/eprint/10303
Use of the SetUp function is described in the scripting guide here: https://github.com/louisepb/TexGenScriptingGuide
Your orientations look fine - they represent the tangent at a given point in a yarn.
Hope that helps,
Louise

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Hi Louise:
I have another question. How can i make the weft and binder yarns fit well like the automaticlly generated 3d Weave. What kind of the path should i define? The example is in attachment. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Hi Frank,
If you render the nodes you will be able to see how, in the 3D textiles, extra nodes are added to reflect the contour of the weft yarn which the binder is passing over or under. You will find a brief description of this in the paper here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 5X13002704
Otherwise, for more detail you could look in the TexGen code. The functions AddBinderNodes in the 3D textile classes are where this functionality is implemented.
Hope that helps,
Louise

Dear Louise:
Thank for your detail suggestion. That's very helpful. I think that the section fit for the path is more convenient.

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Hello, Dear Dr. Louise and Frank Ji,
May you provide the TexGen(Python) script file for 3D 4-step braided composite which you have shown in the figure.
I may use that script with changing the required parameters.
It will be very much helpful for my work(because I am new in python).
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Re: The yarn section rotates within the path
Hi Vivek,
I'm afraid that I don't have a script for this textile. You could try sending Frank_Zhu a message to see if he'd be willing to share his script. Otherwise, sample scripts can be found here https://github.com/louisepb/TexGenScripts where there may be something that you can adapt to your requirements.
There is also a TexGen scripting guide here https://github.com/louisepb/TexGenScriptingGuide
Best wishes,
Louise
