Hello everyone,
Great to join Texgen Forum and sharing my use of TexGen with everyone here!
I met some issues when I imported textile geometry model (.inp file) into Abaqus. Here I describe my operation steps of importing geometry model.
1.I started with saving my geometry model in "File -> Export -> ABAQUS File -> Voxel File".
In Abaqus Voxel Option screen, I set X, Y, and Z Voxel Count as 1 for each, and I checked Output yarns and Output matrix.
2. Then I launched Abaqus software and imported geometry model in "File ->Import ->Part".
In message area at the bottom of the Abaqus interface, some warnings came up as following:
"A new model database has been created.
The model "Model-1" has been created.
Warning: The elset: "YARN0" is referenced in part: "PART-1" and should be assigned to this part. The set appears to be undefined.
Warning: The elset: "YARN1" is referenced in part: "PART-1" and should be assigned to this part. The set appears to be undefined.
Warning: The elset: "YARN2" is referenced in part: "PART-1" and should be assigned to this part. The set appears to be undefined.
Warning: The elset: "YARN3" is referenced in part: "PART-1" and should be assigned to this part. The set appears to be undefined.
The part "PART-1" has been imported from the input file.
Parts have been imported in "Model-1" from an input file.
Please scroll up to check for error and warning messages."
I attached some images captured. My goal is to use TexGen to generate an appropriate a 2D woven fabric model then use Abaqus to simulate tensile test of a 2D woven fabric.
Could anyone explain why this happened and how can I modify my operation steps?
Thank you so much,
Y

- This is the image I captured after importing the geometry model. It seems weird because the direction of geometry model changed after importing into Abaqus. Also, Abaqus seems automatically meshed the model into a 4*4*1 block.

- I generated a brief geometry model in TexGen and saved it in .inp file.

Re: Importing TexGen geometry model in Abaqus
Hello Y,
You need to choose a number of voxels in each direction which is sufficient to capture the geometry of the textile. If you set the voxel count to be one in each direction you will only create one voxel for the whole model. TexGen uses the centre of each voxel element to determine if it should be assigned to the matrix or one of the yarns. I would think that the centre point of the textile is probably matrix so the voxel will be assigned to the matrix element set and the yarn element sets will be empty.
Hope that helps,
Louise
