Dear Dr. Louise Brown,
I found the plot looks strange when i create the 3D woven based on layer to layer method which make me difficult to adjust the path of binder yarns. I just put three pictures regarding the parameters settings due to the limitations.
You can easily reproduce the strange plot based on these settings.
And the parameters which i used for this model are also showing below:
By the way, Is there any way to add additional surface yarns on the up and lower surface?
Thank you for your big support!
Have a nice day!
Best regards.

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello,
Your issue here is the yarn spacing. This is the width of the 'slot' in which the yarn is located, not the gap inbetween the yarns. If the yarns are all the same width then in the case that you show then you would need to enter a yarn spacing of yarn width + 0.1.
Probably the easiest way to add surface yarns is to increase the number of layers and not bind them by the binder yarns. You could also add yarns to the textile after it has been generated by the 3D wizard.
Hope that helps,
Louise

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello,
Thank you for your quickly feedback.
yes, it works after i modified the yarn spacing.
For the surface yarns as you mentioned, to be honestly, i don't know either of these two ways. So could you please give me more detailed instructions about these two ways?
There is a big deviation for the evaluation of mechanical properties and i noticed the there is different between the path of weft yarns and the reality which can be a bit curved after we took a CT measurement.
So do we have some ideas how to create these curved weft yarns?
Thank you and wish you and your team all have a nice day!
Best regards!

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello,
You will probably need to either manually edit paths/cross-section etc to create a more realistic model.
To add more layers increase the number selected in the wizard dialog box and then create binder yarn paths such that they don't bind the outside layers. To manually add layers and edit textiles see either the user guide http://texgen.sourceforge.net/index.php/User_Guide or take a look at one of the tutorials on GitHub eg https://github.com/louisepb/PurdueWorkshop2019
Best wishes,
Louise

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello Mrs. Louisepb,
Thank you for your support.
Unfortunately, i cannot download the file named 'Purdue TexGen workshop 2019.pptx', even cannot view it after tried GitHub desktop. i don't know the reason, maybe due to the long way
So could you please send me by email? It is Lijun_Gu_2020@outlook.com
Have a nice day.
Best regards!

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hi,
The file will be too large to send. Have you tried cloning the repository to your local machine? If that doesn't work let me know and I'll set up a link to share the file.
Best wishes,
Louise

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello Dr. Louisepb,
Sorry I have no idea about the 'cloning the repository'.
Could you please give me some support for this or you can send the link directly.
BTW, to make the curved weft yarns it is not so efficient to adjust the weft manually one by one. Do you have some other methods?
Thank you.
Have a nice day for all of you.
Best regads!

Re: how to create the layer to layer woven?
Hello,
Probably the easiest thing to do if you're not familiar with git and version control, is to download a zipped file. On the GitHub page you will see a green 'Code' button at the top left. If you click on this you will see a 'Download zip' option which will download everything in the repository.
As far as adjusting yarns goes, if you are doing something similar to a set of yarns then the most efficient way of doing this is probably to write a script using the API functions. If you can work through the tutorials etc then it should be clearer how to do this.
Hope that helps,
Louise
