No Matrix properties

Post by johankotze »

Hi all,
I am just starting out with TexGen, and am building a very simple 2D weave to simulate in CalculiX.
I assume the matrix properties are for composite weaves, consisting of fibres in a matrix. What should the matrix properties be for plain textile, with no matrix? Everything set to zero?
Thanks and regards,
Johan

Hi Johan,
If you have chosen an export which includes the domain then it will export the meshes in the spaces as the matrix material with associated properties. You could, however, remove the matrix element sets after export.
If you choose the dry fibre export then a conformal mesh is exported with just the yarns. In the voxel mesh export you can uncheck the Output Matrix option to just export the yarns.

Hope that helps,
Louise

Hi Louise,

Thank you for the speedy reply.

I am still experimenting to find the best export format for CalculiX, so am not sure about the final solution.
Your explanation makes sense though, thank you very much.

If anyone has experience with the best export format for CalculiX, I would appreciate any input.

Many regards,
Johan

PS: A very useful product, thank you!

Hi Johan,

It's quite a long time since we've had anyone here who uses CalculiX but it's my understanding that it's compatible with the Abaqus .inp format so any of the exports to that should hopefully work.

I'd be interested to hear if there are any issues and feel free to make/propose any updates :)

Best wishes,
Louise
