Hello,
i have a question concerning the Unitsystem in Texgen.
To draw a comparison between a tensile test and the simulation done with Abaqus, i need to know the dimensions in Texgen/Abaqus. Is it possible to come from my values of the unit cell displayed in the Graphical Interface to values in "m"?
My unit cell is of dimension 4*8*2.
Also when the Youngs modulus is of 80 N/mm^2 the Unit is not "mm" in the dimension of the unit cell.
Can anybody tell me, where my problems in understanding are? Are the values only for relative orientaion between the different direction of dimesion?

Re: Units in Texgen
Hi Jost,
The units displayed in the GUI are all mm. I'm afraid that there is currently no facility to change this. All dimensions used when specifying yarns etc are in mm.
When you specify the properties you can change the units you wish to use for these in the Properties dialog.
Some of the functions available in the API, eg GetYarnLength, allow you to specify the units you wish to be returned but also specify a default for if no unit is specified (in this case the default is m ).
Does this answer your questions?

Re: Units in Texgen
Louise,
Are you sure you meant millimetres in "All dimensions used when specifying yarns etc are in mm."? Does this apply to the Yarn Properties, because when one opens this in the GUI the units involving length are all specified as meters. Just asking to check it's not a typo.
If you are correct in saying millimetres, why are the units it allows one to set (tex, density, fibre area, fibre diameter) all requested in metres; is this a typo-error in the GUI? Also where does this leave density values, should we give them in kg/mm^3?
Thanks,
David

Re: Units in Texgen
Hi David,
Any of the properties are in the units chosen in the dialog - you can change them to the units you require.
When I said that dimensions used when specifying yarns are in mm I was meaning the dimensions given in the dialogs for specifying node positions, domain and repeat dimensions.
Hope that clarifies things,
Louise
