Geometry output

Post by Flo_TUM »

Hi,

I've a special problem with the geometry export of texgen.
When I try to export a model, that was imported from wisetex data, to step or iges format it always leads to an unhandled exception error.
As you can see in the attached screenshot, there is no information about the source of this error.

This is the output text until the error occured:

Code: Select all

Saving Textile to STEP file: E:\Studium\SA2_Einheitszelle\TexGen\WiseTex_Import\2d_braid_60deg.stp

Choosing faceted instead of smooth doesn't change anything.
Any ideas how to solve this?

Regards,
Florian

Hi Florian,

The only thing that I can suggest is that you send me your tg3 file so that I can run it in debug and try and work out where the program is falling over.

Best regards,

Ok here's one of the tg3-files, which produce this error.
Hope this will help to find out what's wrong.

Thanks,
Florian

Dear Louise,

I'm confronted the same problem with Flo. Previously, I had a compiling problem from Texgen to .step file, but now it's ok. So, when I imported them to ABAQUS, unhandled exception message appeared. It happened to almost all of my geometry imports. However, I managed to import a geometry in ABAQUS but it was an improper geometry generated. In addition to that, I also got this message (as attached here) for other trials.

Really appreciate your help.

Hi,

I have tried loading a STEP export of the polyester fabric into ABAQUS 6.9. It loads with no problem on my machine. If the polyester fabric doesn't load on your computer it may be that the files it warns you about in the error message are missing on your computer. Have you checked this? If this works but other files don't then it looks like an error particular to your model. In that case I'd need to take a look at your particular case in order to speculate as to what the problem might be.

Hi Louise,

could you already get some information from testing the file I posted?
Can you appreciate if there's an easy way to fix the problem or if I have to build texgen from source and work on the code?
In the meantime I also tried to export Abaqus-inputfiles from this model and even though I don't get error messages there aren't any nodes or elements in the file.
So do you have any hints for me so far?

greets,
Florian

Hi Florian,

I'm afraid I didn't get to the bottom of why the export of your file to STEP fails. It seems to be falling over somewhere in the OpenCascade export code and I haven't had time to persue this.

Your model is a little strange in that it has 156 nodes on each yarn. Normally a model would have far fewer nodes (maybe 5 or 10?) on each yarn and would interpolate between these. Whether this is an issue in the export I'm not sure.

Which Abaqus export did you try? I have just run the Abaqus Dry Fibre File export on your textile and it exports fine. I loaded it into Abaqus to view it and the model seems fine there too.

Best regards,
Louise

It's right that the number of nodes is very high but i modified the input-script so I can adjust how much of the nodes from the original file are imported.
I tried several configurations, even with 5 nodes per yarn and that didn't change anything.

I tried the mesh export again at the moment and even though I changed nothing it works now. No idea what the problem was.
