Textile Export
Hi all,
I really need your help since I'm the beginner in TexGen. I glad that finally i managed to find a solution to my work and being accepted in this forum.
I would like to import my fibre built in TexGen to ABAQUS cae. I had exported my tg3 file to igs file and I called out this file using FILE - IMPORT - PART in ABAQUS. However, I got a message saying
"import igesEntitiesScan; igesEntitiesScan.acisSupported ...
syntaxError: invalid syntax"
How could i fix it?
Cheers,
Yanie

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Hi,
did you try to export your geometry in step format?
In general step causes much less problems compared to iges plus you have the possibility to import every yarn as a single part.

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Hi Yanie,
Welcome to the forum. Do you want to export a model of the dry fibres or of the composite?
If you want to export just the fibres you can use the File->Export->ABAQUS File->ABAQUS Dry Fibre File option.
For a composite you can use the File->Export->Volume Mesh option and select a .inp file in the file select dialog.
Alternatively the voxel mesh export using File->Export->ABAQUS File->ABAQUS Voxel File will allow for export of the fibre, matrix or both.
Hope that helps,
Louise

Hi Flo and Louise,
sorry for a late reply. Thanks for the guide and I'll try to use both method to export them.

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Dear all,
I followed as what Louisepb suggested to me unfortunately the file cannot be compiled. It says, "Error compiling code!". I've tried another options but also failed. However when I try to compile a sample file (polyester), it works. I managed to get the .stp file by following to what Flo recommended. Could anyone explain to me what when wrong??
Thanks.
Yanie

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Hi Yanie,
What operation were you trying to carry out when you go the error message? If you could describe exactly what you were doing and, if possible, send the model you are working on then I could try and work out what the problem is.
However, there are issues with the STEP output and some of these seem to be with the third party software used in the export. Is there a reason why you're exporting as a STEP file rather than using one of the ABAQUS export options within TexGen?

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Hi Louise,
Thanks for your quick response.
I chose to compile with Step because every time I use ABAQUS export i will get this message;
Vox = CVoxelMesh()
<2> Vox.SaveVoxelMesh(GetTextile('3DWeave(W:24,H:26)'), r'C:\Users\Public\Documents\YANIE's\ABAQUS & TexGen\MEMBRANE & ALGORITHM\membrane project\TexGen\trial.inp', 50,50,50,1,1,0,0)
<!> Error compiling code!
But not every geometry succeed with Step procedure as well.
I'm trying to run geometries with some complicated patterns and I would like to import it in ABAQUS for the analysis. (pls find the attachment)
I figure out that if I try to compile some geometry more than 10 (warp) by 10 (weft), the compilation will fail.

Re: TexGen 3.4.0 export to ABAQUS 6.10-1
Hi Yanie,
I haven't looked at your model yet but the problem with saving as a voxel mesh is in your path name. The apostrophe in the folder name Yanie's will mess up the formatting of the Python command into which it's inserted. If you rename the folder or put it into a different folder with no apostrophes in any of the names then it should work fine.

Re: Textile Export
Hi Yanie,
I've split the thread as we've gone off-topic from the original post.
I've taken a look at your model. Are you exporting a dry textile or a composite to ABAQUS? You can do either with the voxel mesh but you will need a large number of voxels in the x and y directions to capture your geometry. You may find that the Dry Fibre Export is more suitable if you're exporting just the textile rather than a composite.
Where are you working and what are you working on? It's an interesting looking textile.

Re: Textile Export
Hi Louise,
First of all, thanks for your effort and glad to hear that you are interested with my textile design. I'm working on optimisation of textile fibre where I'm producing some new patterns into textile fibre and study on their behaviour. I'm a PhD student in Bauhaus Universitaet Weimar, Germany. That's something about me in short.
Back to our concern, I'm interested to export both of them since I would like to look into their behaviour with and without composite. Perhaps I may start with exporting the dry textile first. However, as you mentioned earlier about the number of voxels, how many of voxels do I need so that I could run the dry textile? I'm not really clear on that part.
It's my pleasure to work with you then.

Re: Textile Export
Hi Yanie,
For a voxel mesh you will probably need to experiment with the number of voxels to find the number which gives you a good representation of your yarns. You can use the voxel mesh for both the dry textile and the composite.
If you use the ABAQUS Dry Fibre export this will give you a conformal mesh. If you use the Renderer->Render Textile Volume option (turning off Render Textile Surface first) you will see the mesh that will be produced for the dry fibre export. If you want to change the resolution of the mesh you can use the SetResolution functions described here http://texgen.sourceforge.net/api/class ... _yarn.html
Hope that helps,
Louise

Re: Textile Export
Dear Louise,
I already compiled my dry fibre using the ABAQUS Dry Fibre File options. I checked the Regenerate Mesh box and adjust intersections box. I also scaled down the X,Y and Z scale to 0.5 instead of 1 and I got the .inp, .ori, and .eld files for all of them. Then I imported them in ABAQUS, with Import -> Model -> name of the file (.inp). However, it failed to generate successfully due to this error ;
AbaqusException: in keyword *DISTRIBUTION, file "kelarai berkaki.inp", line 473537: Input file "kelaraiberkaki.ori" does not exist.
in keyword *INITIALCONDITIONS, file "kelarai berkaki.inp", line 485775: Input file "kelaraiberkaki.eld" does not exist.
This occurred while parsing the input file. Run the input file through the batch pre-processor to check for syntax errors.
The model "kelarai berkaki" has been imported from an input file.
Please scroll up to check for error and warning messages.
How could this happen because I already have the file name in .ori and .eld as well?
Thus, I try another options where I imported the .stp file into ABAQUS. Unfortunately, the textile generated with a lot of missing geometry (as shown below)

Re: Textile Export
Hi Yanie,
If you look carefully at your the filenames in the error message you will see that there is a discrepancy between the .ori filename in the distribution command in the error message and the one in the command in the .inp file. ABAQUS doesn't allow spaces in filenames (also a max of 32 characters) and so when it reads the distribution command it strips out the spaces and is then looking for the wrong file. I'll change TexGen so that spaces are stripped out of filenames for ABAQUS files.
In the meantime simply rename your files without spaces and everything should work.
Also there were no intersections in the model you sent me. If this is the case then there is no point in checking the correct intersections and regenerate mesh boxes.
Louise

Re: Textile Export
Hi Louise,
Thanks for your guide. Yeah I already unchecked the boxes and I managed to import some simple geometry to abaqus. Will try the others then.
