Introduction

Post by louisepb »

Just thought I would post a short note to introduce myself. I started work at Nottingham Uni in the Composites Research Group at the beginning of December and will be working on the Texgen software. Please be patient while I get to grips with the code - I am told that a computer will be arriving for me this afternoon so I'll hopefully start to make progress on this front in the near future!

You can find out a bit more about me here: http://uk.linkedin.com/in/lpbrown

Looking forward to working with you,

Louise

Hope you are looking forward to your new job. It would be interesting to know what plans you have for the software for the future!

I work with 3D-woven structures and there are some issues related to the geometry that texgen has difficulty with. It would be interesting to discuss these with you if you have the time.

best regards

At the moment I am familiarising myself with the software by working through a few issues raised by the researchers here at Nottingham.

I would be interested to hear the issues that you have come across with the geometry. It's possible that they are known problems but if not they may be things that I can look into in due course.

Welcome to the project Louise!

I'm excited to learn someone as skilled as yourself is continuing the great work of this program. I've been working with TexGen for nearly a year and have found several issues related to meshing/boundaries and will compose them for you when I get a chance. Until then you already seem busy with the code, so keep up the good work.

Kind regards,

Thanks Michael,

Do let me know about the issues with the meshing/boundaries. Other people have said that there are problems with the meshing but I could do with some examples which illustrate what these actually are so that I can replicate them and try and pinpoint what the issues are in the code.

I'm interested to know who's using TexGen - where are you based and what work are you using TexGen for?

Best regards,
Louise

I'm located at the University of New Hampshire, USA. We're using TexGen to model 3D woven composites to better understand cure-induced cracking in the resin. We hope to be able to predict cracking without needing to fabricate the parts first. :)

We will be presenting our progress at ECCM 2010 this coming Monday. I've been quite busy and I wanted wait until I had more time to better present the problems I've seen. I will try to briefly post something tonight though.
