3D weave and ANSYS

Post by aerobitch »

Hello everybody,

I am new to texgen so i have a coyuple of questions and would be very greatful if someone could help me!I have created a 3d weave model using the ''empty'' option from ''textiles'' page, to use in my PhD. I have created the geometry, domain, and the matrix and fiber propetries. My problem is that when I try to export my model in abaqus the program is not responding. Abaqus file seem to work for me only when i choose: Export --> Volume mesh --> abaqus file. Am I missing something like inputs ?
I would also like to do some static analyses in ANSYS. As far as i know texgen works with abaqus. So is there any way to introduce the geometry to ansys FE code?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Anthony,

If you could give a bit more detail about what you are trying to do and exactly what you mean by the program is not responding that would be great. It's difficult to say what the problem might be without a specific example.

The second half of this tutorial (in the documentation page of the TexGen website) http://texgen.sourceforge.net/workshop/ ... alysis.pdf gives an example of how to export to ansys CFX.

Hope that helps,

Hi Louise,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I ll try to be as specific I can in order to help you.
First of all I created 12 yarns for my model. 4 horizontal, 4 vectrical, and 4 ''bezier'' that go through the horizontal and vectrical yarns. I have also uploaded some pics to be more clear

All of these were crated by hand using the ''Empty'' option.
Then I created a ''box'' with the correct dimentions of my RVE and gave the yarn and matrix material properties
Finally I saved my model with the .tg3 tag. The only problem up to this step is that the vectrical yarns are not shown properly as it is shown in the pics. I dont know if this has something to do with my problem, but do you know how to fix this as well?

So I have created the geometry and saved the geometry as ''Standard (textile and yarn data)'' in a file and ''Full (textile, yarn and mesh data) in another. I have to mention that I have not come across any mesh options or changed something related to meshing or crated any kind of mesh...

My ultimate goal is of course, to crate an FE model of this geometry. To do tthis i tried to do ''Export --> ABAQUS file --> either Voxel or Dry fiber. When i do this either no file is saved in the directory I indicated or i get the message '' texgen is not responding'', texgen closed down and no file is saned again. The only thing that i have managed to do so far is to save a .vtu and an abaus .inp, .eld and .ori file from ''Export --> volume mesh.

Should you need addition info let me know!

Thanks again
Anthony

Hi Anthony,

The problem with the vertical yarns is easy to solve: If you look in section 2.5 of Martin Sherburn’s PhD thesis here http://etheses.nottingham.ac.uk/303/1/thesis-final.pdf you will find a description of the use of an ‘up’ vector used to generate the yarn surface. In the case of vertical yarns the vector needs to be redefined, typically to a unit vector in the x or y directions. If you look in your tg3 file you will see the up vector specified for each node. You can either edit this in the tg3 file or,alternatively, if you’ve written a script to generate your textile you can specify it using the CNode SetUp(XYZ Up) function.

My guess is that if you correct this then the problems with the Abaqus dry fibre and voxel exports will resolve themselves. Both of these rely on a correct surface mesh having been generated so would have run into problems with your textile as it was.

Best regards,
Louise
