displaying issues

Post by lambert8809 »

Dear All,

I just began to work on TexGen and found it is really a wonderful tool for the researchers who are studying textile materials. This topic is just for displaying issue and it will not affect any core functions, but it will make TexGen more user-friendly if this issue can be fixed.

I encounter some displaying issues when TexGen generating model. I found when TexGen is generating a big model, the program will be frozen and the window will not display anything, but the model will eventually show after the generation is done. I wonder if the development team will add the "ProgressBar" or some kinds of indicators in the future so that users will know the program is running when it generating a model.

The above issue is for the TexGen windows version, and it maybe not a big issue since the model will show at the end. However, the Linux version has some worse effects because the model will not automatically show after the generation is done. When Linux TexGen generating model, the screen is flashing (see attachment 1 and 2), and the model will not show even after generation is done until users click the window. I don't know if other Linux users ever encounter the same issue.

Best,

Hi Xin,

I'm afraid that I have never found the source of the flickering display in the Linux build. All our users here use the Windows version or just use the Linux version on our HPC without any rendering so it's never been a high enough priority for me to spend time investigating it.

TexGen is a research software project and doesn't have a 'development team' ; currently I'm the only one developing the software so I'm afraid that, while progress bars and flickering windows would be nice to have sorted out, they're not at the top of the 'to-do' list.

I know that you are adding to the software so if you managed to sort these things out you would be welcome to submit a patch to correct these issues.

Best regards,
Louise
