Hi Louise,
I am currently in the stage where I want to import the .inp file into Abaqus. I have run the .inp file through the command window and produced an .odb file consisting the knit and the plate. However, when I attempted to import the .odb model into .cae the compression plate could not be detected by the software. Alternatively I have created a separate plate from the ABAQUS from scratch, however using a general static analysis the job reports error where the increments are too large. I am just wandering if you can only run the compression load analysis through changing the scripts and run through command every single time, also if we can only perform a dynamic explicit to achieve a resulting stress.
Kind Regards,
Shaun

Re: ABAQUS Compression Plate
Hi Shaun,
I'm afraid that I'm not an Abaqus expert so can't help very much. Normally if you do a dry fibre export with compression plates and run the file then the compression plates would still be there. If you load your inp as produced by TexGen into Abaqus without running it are the compression plates there? If not then it seems that there's a problem with the export. You will need to run from the command line if you want to use the ori and eld files.
Sorry not to be more help,
Louise

Re: ABAQUS Compression Plate
Hi Louise,
Thank you for this. Alternatively I have created a separate compression plate which works well in Abaqus.
In addition, I would like to ask is it possible to include resin in the textile model in Tex-Gen? So having the textile encased by the matrix resin. I noticed there is a matrix property but I am not sure how to include this in the weave.
Cheers,
Shaun

Re: ABAQUS Compression Plate
Hi Shaun,
If you use any of the export options other than the dry fabric one then the domain volume will be exported as matrix and any elements in this area will use the matrix properties.
Best wishes,
Louise

Re: ABAQUS Compression Plate
Hi Louise,
Many thanks for the reply. I have managed to import the file and was able to run the file into abaqus. I would also like to know, if the following step is also accurate for analysing the file:
1. Run .inp file from Tex-Gen in command
2. ODB is created.
3. Import model from ODB into CAE.
4. Add external load into model.
5. Run model through CAE.
I am just not sure if you can only edit the initial .inp file from texgen to be able to analyse the material.
Thank you,
Shaun

Re: ABAQUS Compression Plate
Hi Shaun,
Once you have imported the model into ABAQUS it's basically up to you how you then use it. I'm afraid that I'm not an ABAQUS expert - I mainly work on the creation of the models - so I'm not the best person to advise on this.
Best wishes,
Louise
