TexGen crashing!!

Post by loyal979 »

Hello,

I have been working on generating large scale textile with 20 layers. I have a python script which generates the plies and then I use the layered option through TexGen GUI to assemble the laminate. TexGen crashes on me once I reach layer number 8 or 9 using the layered tool. Not sure what to do in this case. The laminate dimensions are 100mm x 75mm.

Any suggestions...

Thanks!

Hi,

Is TexGen actually crashing (ie dumping out of the program) or does it just seem to stop (it could just be taking a long time)?

Please could you send more information about what you're actually doing and the textiles that you're creating so that I can try and replicate the error and work out what the issue is.

Thanks,
Louise

Hi Louise,

I was trying to model a non-crimp fabric laminate. the laminate has 20 layers with different orientations. The dimensions of the laminate that I was targeting is 100 mm x 75 mm x 3.5 mm. I will be using this laminate to perform impact simulations. I have written a python script to generate the plies and bring them to TexGen GUI to do the plies' rotations and the assembly of the laminate using the layered tool. Every time I try to rotate the ply with 90 deg. orientation, TexGen crashes (ie dumping out of the program). Not sure what was causing this issue, but it was solved by modifying the laminate dimensions (ie 100 mm ==> 98mm). With that modification, TexGen takes a long time to generate the plies and the laminate. So, What I have done, I built on my python script so that it generates the plies with different orientations and assemble the laminate for me. Then it will export the ABAQUS input file using the voxel mesh technique. The downside of this is that I won't be able to visualize my textile before exporting it to ABAQUS.

Hi,

If you are able to send the script, or section of script, that makes TexGen crash then I could try and find the bug. Otherwise I'm afraid that I don't have enough information to be able to replicate the problem. Glad you've found a workaround though. The fact that it generates the model and exports ok suggests that the problem is with the rendering part of the software.

Best wishes,
Louise
