Hi everyone,
i have a question : if i use the Extraction of Material Properties using Voxel Meshing and Abaqus method with only the yarns as output , what i will get is the properties of the woven fabic not the composite one ,is that correct ?
another question ; why when exporting the voxel abaqus file ,the material properties in Abaqus are transformed into Pa not in Mpa as we mentioned in Texgen yarn material's option?
Thanks.

Re: Extraction of Material Properties
Hi,
If you choose just the yarns then you would probably need to consider contacts in your simulation, in which case just using the method described may not give accurate results. If you use the method as-is for just yarns you would need to validate it against experimental results. I don't think that we've tried using it in this way. The Dry Fibre export gives contact surfaces in the output file but doesn't have anything set up for extraction of material properties.
For the material properties, my understanding is that Abaqus doesn't know anything about units so the values have to be output in a form which gives consistency. The option to change units in TexGen means that they can be input in the same form in which data is available.
Hope that helps,
Louise

Re: Extraction of Material Properties
Hello,
@ghaith I was wondering if you were able to assess the accuracy of extracting the material properties of just the yarn without the matrix. I am also interested in getting the material properties (elastic modulus, shear modulus, Poisson's ratio) of a "homogenized fabric" rather than a composite.
Best,
Grace
