TexGen Periodic Meshing Issues

Post by zcemdki »

Hello,

I'm trying to export a periodic boundary mesh into Abaqus, I've done this for geometries that I've created myself as they were straight fibres. Now that I'm using the automatic woven mesh generator and I've tried exporting out the mesh by selecting the volume mesh export button. I always get a nice mesh on the main surface but the thickness edges are very coarse. I click the PBC button on export and refining the mesh size or merge tolerance does nothing.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Hi Dominic,

The dimensions of your unit cell are very small so my guess is that it's a tolerance issue. The seed size should govern how the sides of the domain are divided to seed the triangulation and the merge tolerance governs how small the gap between yarns can be before it is removed rather than generating a separate matrix element. The ends are seeded using the surface mesh so it might be worth checking if this is set to a resolution which looks ok. Otherwise it might be that there's a tolerance set internally in the code which is needs to be changed because of the small dimensions in your mesh, in which case I would probably need to load your model to work out what is going on.

Happy to help if you still have problems but it may not be for a couple of weeks.
Best wishes,
Louise
