Quick Question about 2D WIZARD

Post by jidewilliams »

Hello,
When working with the 2D Weave Wiz I noticed that prescribing the yarn spacing and Fabric thickness alone fixed the yarn width with the default '0.8'. Now if you decided not to prescribe the yarn width but did for yarn spacing and yarn thickness, will the wizard automatically calculate the width and use it in computing the geometry as seen in the rendering?

I tried creating several single-layer 2D weaves to be combined in the layered module and discovered that while I vary the yarn spacing and thickness for each layer (each 2D single-layer), the width did not change when I got back to Textile - Edit Textile-yarn width... in the Wizard's GUI, but the width changed in the rendering. For example, one would expect that if you increase the yarn's thickness the width will decrease for the same yarn (see figures) but this does not reflect in the wizard if you go back to edit it. Can you please shed more light here? How can I estimate the width whenever I change the thickness?
Thank you for making such a powerful tool :D

Hello,

The 2D wizard will set the yarn spacing, width and thickness to whatever values you set in the dialog box. if you don't change the width from the default 0.8 then it will just use that value. It's up to you to define the dimensions of the yarn that you want to model (ie you need to set all of these parameters to the values for your particular yarn).

There don't seem to be any figures attached so I can't see what's going on with the widths.

I hope that helps,
Louise
