Periodic Meshing

Post by Jarvis »

Hi all,

I am trying to generate a unit cell model that is imported into Abaqus. Periodic meshing is required by the model.

I am using CMesher to generate the mesh, and I have
CMesher.SetPeriodic(True)

The problem is that the mesh only comes out periodic sometimes. I have a function that verifies the periodicity and it won't let me continue to Abaqus Importation unless mesh is verified. I have found that adjusting the seed size by very small amounts will change whether the mesh is periodic or not.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to ensure that the mesh is periodic? Is there some way that I can pick a seed size that will be guaranteed to be periodic?

Any help would be much appreciated!

hi jarvis

I've got a similar problem. Can I ask you how did you solve it? Or anybody who can answer, what should we do to obtain really periodic meshes with TexGen? Because they are not pretty always periodic when you choose periodic mesh.

Someone else can probably answer this more confidently than me, but I think that this is a limitation of the current mesh generator. I think it will try to make periodic meshes, but often fails.

I don't have much personal experience of this, so I may be wrong, but I seem to remember discussions in the office going along these lines in the past.

Maybe someone knows someone who is good at writing mesh generation algorithms...?
